The transom clamp/screw on my 1965 3 horse WILL NOT budge.

Tried working it back and forth with vice grips and some lubrication, but no dice. Im getting the feeling something is going to snap if I put more mustard to it...

Any ideas or tricks?

Re: Froze clamp

Its not on a boat. YET.

I was going to run it in a barrell but the damn clamp wont move. I'll soak her down and return after a half dozen coffees. LOL

Thanks

I bet heat is the only way you are going break it loose.

If PB Blaster doesn't work try a 50/50 mix of acetone and auto transmission fluid may work better for you. Good luck

Re: Froze clamp

Wish I could offer some advice. I have a set of 3 hp transom brackets hanging on the garage wall that are frozen that I could never get to budge. Got new (well, old ones that weren't frozen) ones on ebay.

Re: Froze clamp

too much heat will prolly pop the casting...I think they were aluminum back then. Too much torque will strip the threads. Be very careful!!!

Re: Froze clamp

Thanks guys. Yeah, all aluminum.

I dont know how much heat I dare apply, but it may come down to the flame in the end.
