i have a 12 ft aluminum on a trailer but we have to carry the motor inside the camper. when the m/c is on the trailer there is not enuf room to have the 9.9 on the boat. so i went and installed myself a front mount hitch off to the pass side of the frame rail on my dually truck. makes putting the boat in easy as i can see it. anyhow i am wondering how to use the hitch to hold the motor while we cruise down the highway. you'd think someone would make something to do that. thought about modifyiong a bycyle rack but seems it would be flimsy meterial for a 70lb motor. know of any products that might work. I have seen beach buggys with outboard mounts attached to front brush bars. They "car"top the boat and launch at remote locations.

if the hitch is a reciever hitch any welder could fabricate a mount to go into the reciever. if not you could add a reciever to the front. just be sure to lock the motor to mount and use an reciever lock, or it might not be there after the lunch stop.

did some research, "http://www.jcwhitney.com/Front-Mount-Receiver-Hitch-Accessories/600002342.jcw?TID=8072988&gclid=CJWJ2tj06I8CFQiaPAod6Uo_Ew"

you could modify the spare tire mount, possible as simple as mounting a 2x12 on it.

Be careful folks. If your vehicle has air bags, mounting anything to the front can cause serious damage and/or air bag system failure.

I think vehicles quit using front impact sensors in the early 90's. Since then they use an inertial sensor mounted in the cabin, so if the vehicle is newer than 93 it should be a non issue.

Some trucks had them as late as 2006.

A flat cargo tray should hold that outboard laying down.

I see them in the 1 1/4" or 2" receiver sizes.

Plus give you room to carry extra stuff like coolers, tackle box, etc. Maybe even mount your rod holders on it so they are not stuck on the front of your truck all year round.

WHOA!!Mark, putting that on the front with coolers and 70#
motor is going to block air flow through rad.and cause all kids of problems,
also wouldn't that extra weight be hard on the steering?

Thats what I see on the beach. Rows of pickups and suv's with a rack front mounted, with the rocket tubes bolted on, and coolers and stuff strapped down. I guess they sit far enough away from the radiators (12" or so? ) so that cooling is not an issue.

These guys pull up to the surf, cast in and stick the poles in the rod holders, then sit back with their umbrellas and lounge chairs and drink a few cool ones from the cooler. And yes, the ranger does check for alcohol on state park owned beaches (if your acting like a fool).

Even if he didn't use a cooler, having an outboard strapped down on it shouldn't cause cooling problems. Can't comment on the steering, as I never drove one setup like that!

The front hitch is great for backing up boat trailers, I use mine all the time because our street and driveway is so narrow, it takes less time and stress than trying to back in. As far as mounting coolers, etc, it probably varies by the truck you have, if the coolin system is marginal I would not put one on front, but might try it on the rear instead. Only issue I can see is if it blocks the license plate the police may object.

I have a 4 bike carrier that fits 1 1/4 or 2 " reciever I've carried 1 tandem bike and 3 regular bikes at the same time with no problems. And a tandem is 8ft long thats a lot of sideways leverage.About 170 lbs. total weight.
Just keep in mind the previous cautions mentioned.
