hows everybody doin, gettin plenty of time in the water i hope. anyways, im in the marines deployed to fallujah as of now but soon ill be back on the Georgia coast and whenever i go home on leave, being out on the water is my favorite getaway. i have a boat but its in camp pendleton so i use my dad's boat-a 13.5 ft boston whaler with a 28hp johnson. dad used to pamper the boat but he started workin a lot. the boat runs pretty strong most of the time, but every now and then, this long, constant beep (like a flatline from a heart monitor) comes on and the motor just revs up and down, up and down. i usually just turn it off and wait a few minutes, or theres a trick i do thats to hard to explain in typed words. either way, i havent fixed it nor do i know what the hell it is. if some of yall could give me a lil advice, i'd appreciate it. Thanks to all and enjoy the summer water while i can't!!!!!!LOL

The impeller is the heart of the water pump. These usually need to be replaced every couple of years with normal use. The part is inexpenive and it is easy to change. Replacement of the impeller is considered normal maintenance.

When the impeller is worn or damaged, not enough water is circulated into the powerhead for cooling.

It is located at the top of the lower unit. Pick up a service manual for the engine (very well worth the $) and it will walk you through the process. After you have done it once, it is a 30 minute job.

Here is a video that demonstrates the process:

A big thank you to you and your buddies over there, but let's move this over to the Johnson repair forum for answers.
