I finally got to try my new cast net this past weekend. In a matter of minutes I had a cooler full of shad. I put a few slits on each side and I have never caught so many catfish on this lake. Man was it fun. I netted enough shad for about four fishing trips. Could you freeze them and still have the same results the next time out. The only problem was they seemed a little harder to stay on the hook the day after.

Ya, it makes them mushy, nothing like fresh bait.

No experience with shad, but have plenty with other minnows.
Mostly shiners and fat heads.
We roll them in salt, let them dry a few hours, then stack them up in ziplock bags.

They work well for when you need that real minnow scent for bottom feeders, or for use when trolling. Never used them for jigging or bobber fishing.

Meant to say we salt em, then stack em up in ziplock bags, THEN we freeze them, so they don't dry up completely.
