frankensteining a motor guide trolling motor ?

I have two broken motorguides one is a old bow mount sizzler foot control old prob early 80's manufacture, i also have a 39 lb trust syngergy i think. That was a transom mount nefore i broke the mount . My question is Can i add a fricton nut assembly from a newer model hand control gator mount or smilar and just flip the head and basicly have a hand control bow mount ? or did they change shaft diameters that much over the years ?
