I am working on a 1968 Fibra with a four cylinder GM engine. It has either a 270 or 200 Volvo Penta Outdrive and the tilt motor has a four connector molex connector coming out of the bottom. Does anyone know how to hook this up? Here are pictures of the outdrive.

You have a 200 drive, not a 270 as mentioned in your other post. Plus you have a Mercruser 120 engine hooked to it.

It's very possible that a previous owner replaced the tilt mechanism with a 280 4 wire motor setup. Here is the wiring diagram for it.
I colored the wires one way trying to figure out what did what.

Wow... I have chills up my spine. Now I need to find a 5 prong relay. Thanks.

If it is a 280 lift module, you will need to get the OEM relays for it. The aftermarket relays never fit in the box.

The relay box mounted on top of the tilt mechanism.

Maybe you need to post some pictures of your tilt mechanism, it obviously isn't original, and it's really tough giving someone info on things they can't see and identify. All you are getting is a bunch of WAG's. (Wild Azz Guesses) at this point.

Yeah,

this is obviously a make shift tilt system. I thought I had it figured out, but I ended up frying the motor. I hate the stench of burnt windings.

Where can I get a new motor? Can I get a three wire motor? Simple is BEST.

If you are changing the motor anyway, change to a two wire and have the latest stuff. They are available for around $100 new.

The 2 wire would be the way to go. The thing I can't tell you is if it will bolt up to your 4 wire housing or not.

How hard is it to remove the WHOLE assembly. It looks way easy, which means it could be can of worms. :D I hate needlessly chasing worms.

Shouldn't be anything more than removing the mount bolt and lifting the whole assembly up out of the transom shield.

I guess I won't need to. I replaced the spade connectors and it works up and down. Unfortunately, it tllted it so high that it pulled the intake hose off. I will clean the hose bard and use a new hose clamp.

Is there a way to limit this? Is there a way to buy/install a limit switch? It looks there was some sort of contact switch on the top, but the wire has been cut off at the nut.

Pictures are needed, there is no up limit but there should be a down limit switch. You've got a very unusual setup and we are all just guessing without pictures.

Your upper bumpstop is missing it's pad, that would limit the travel a little more.
