Four Winns forward and reverse switched

Hi I’ve got a year 2000 Four Winns Horizon 210. It had been sitting at my father-in-law’s place for about a decade and we finally took it to the lake. Once we got it in the water I pushed the shifter into reverse and the boat went forward. I pushed the shifter forward and the boat went in reverse. Anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?

Sounds like someone replaced the shift cable and got it on the wrong arm in the box behind the shift lever.
