I am a first time boat owner. I hope I am in the right forum since this is a jet engine. I purchased a Four Winns Fling with a 115JE/V4 engine. The last time I started the engine, oil blew out the exhaust and smoke is pretty prevalent when idling. Is there a seal or gasket that got blown? I have a call into previous owner to see if boat did this prior.<br />This was the first time the boat was ran this season and it was very difficult to get started. (Drained the battery the day before trying to get it going) Ran fine on the water after getting it going but continued to smoke.

It is probably from winterization. Most likely that is the fogging oil burning off.

+ 2 strokes just plain ol smoke alot. usally good. means they're gettin oil...in the regular old 2 strokes that is....non variable oil injection that is. just look at all the older outboards at the boat ramp. they smoke alot too......last note. my 95 kaw. would smoke me out of the garge....it smoked a lot. and that was correct for it......

The Fling has the same setup as a Boston Whaler Rage '15. Check your compression but they do smoke a little. The main problem with them is the cooling system. Get an infrared temp sensor to monitor the temps of the muffler and cyl heads. (I am NOT a mechanic but have had a Rage for over 6 years). LOL
