found what might be an obstruction

ok this is a J115PLSSB ser# Q0475407 yr 2000<br />The water telltale was giving a constant stream but now it spits and when i removed the telltale i found what looks like a drop of orange form a gasket with a hole punched in it. On this engine is there supposed to be a restrictor like this and if not could the back pressure of this cause a problem. Could this cause the engine to shut down? i dont believe there should be any restrictions. on some motors..the water coming out of the tell tale actually cirulates thru the heads and with others (rudes) the water does not...it bypasses but lets you know that the impellar is working correctly. so no...there should not be any obstruction there

if your water circulates thru the block before coming out of the tell tale, it could lead to overheating. the spitting your referring too sounds like that orange stuff could be some sealant that has broken loose and is plugging your tell tale...i suggest clearing your tell tale hose and try and run it..if the stream is constant again that may have fixed it.
