This little pin here. Found it sitting just like that when I pulled the housing off. What's it for, where is it supposed to go? I'm sure it's not supposed to be sitting in there eh?

Looks like a needle from a bearing to me.

That is the impeller key.

An unusual place to find that pin. When you removed the old impeller, you probably noted the small key which fit in that machined groove that mated with a groove inside the old impeller. Likely it would have fallen out when you removed the old impeller. OMC has used a number of different shaped impeller "keys" over the years. Always possible that the prior person in there may have used this pin as a substitute key to hold the impeller.

Nope, no relation. I'm betting the pin fell out of the waterpump when you pulled it up, and then it fell through the hole in the pump plate, landing on the bearing housing... No issue here. Use a dab of grease to hold the pin in place when reassembling...

I would have a agree with emdsapmgr. PO probably used it for a key

I seriously doubt that's the impeller keeper unless it's flat on one side. Look at the drive shaft, it clearly shows the size and shape that the keeper should be. It's not even close to the right diameter. That is a bearing that's been badly worn and I agree with Chinewalker that it probably just landed there during disassembly of the pump housing. It could be a rod bearing that got ingested and spit out the exhaust. If that's the case there will surely be more to follow.

Cool, appreciate you stopping by fellas!

I'll just buy the whole pump kit to get all the stuff I need for replacement.

In that schematic that Hammiman posted, it's not part #21 is it? Or, #15?

My small brain can't seem to figure out where it's supposed to go?

Edit: Jlawsen, it's not flat on one side.

Edit #2: Just went out to the shop, I believe I see where that "key" may have gone now. Really doesn't seem like it would be a good fit there but no matter, I'll just grab a new set up.

Been in the business at that time as a dealer, seen quite a number of them - simply an old type impeller 'key' and most definitely nothing from engine internal like a roller pin from a big end bearing which is the closest in size. The schematic I posted was from a 40/50, but below is one for 84-90HP. The 'Pin' is marked #21 - have a look at the spec!!

When you get your new kit, it might be two plastic wedges, one Black and one White, replacing the roller. Use the one with the best fit!!

It is NOT a bearing. It is the original waterpump pin. They were a round, stainless steel pin and the original impellers had a round groove in the hub to match. The new, replacement kits use the plastic key and the new replacement impellers use the elongated groove in the hub.
