Found ethanol free gas at a local station:). Can report about the BIG difference it has made in my boat's performance ('89 Glastron Sierra 3.0l Mercruiser alpha one). It never shot out like that before or ran so smooth. Only hope I can continue to get ethanol free gas. Think of the positive impact on the whole fuel system it will have$$$$$ Has anyone else experienced the same performance improvement as I have?

Yes it makes a big difference in all marine boats...I think...fuel stays way cleaner!

I used ethanol one season six years ago, been using non ethanol since then. I don't recall it making much difference performance wise. But I still use it.

I have looked and of course no non ethanol stations around me on that site. Is it much cheaper than regular fuel 87 octane

It's usually fairly hard to find and you cannot just take the station operators word for it that it actually IS ethanol "free". You would have to test it to verify it actually is.

As far as price......Gasoline is priced according to market forces (price of oil, refining, supply/demand, etc) and has always has been.

All the marine manufacturers warrant their engines to operate to rated power on E10. (they specifically indicate that fuel containing MORE than 10% will be "problematic")

You may be wasting your time trying to find alcohol free gas for your boat.

My Mercruiser engine manual states "....it is recommended that ONLY alcohol-free gasoline be used where possible."
Unfortunately, in NY, our government has eliminated the possibility of obtaining alcohol-free gas.

Mercury changes their tune every now and then.

Mine (1997 Operation and Maintenance Manual) says:

The fuel systems components on your Mercruiser engine will withstand up to 10% alcohol content in the gasoline
Here's what Mercury says TODAY on their own website.

Are Mercury engines compatible with ethanol fuels?

The fuel-system components of Mercury engines will withstand up to 10 percent ethanol in gasoline - the maximum level currently allowed by the EPA in the U.S. There are some efforts to establish E-20 (20 percent ethanol mixed with 80 percent gasoline) for use in some areas, but that will require agreement from EPA to grant a waiver. Part of the EPA waiver process will require verification from studies that demonstrate that higher levels of ethanol do not create problems with fuel-system materials or operation of hardware. E-20 has not been extensively studied by Mercury and is not acceptable for use in Mercury products. E-85 fuels must not be used in any Mercury engines and could seriously damage current Mercury products. It is not legal in the U.S. to market any ethanol fuel as gasoline if it contains more than 10 percent ethanol.
So.

If you just run E10 as I have, (and not had any problems AT ALL) you probably won't have problems...........

Too many people have old boats with old engines that are not well maintained. All too often, a lot of people are way too quick to blame the fuel.

...when it's clearly the brand/grade of oil that's the problem ;)

It's not cheaper than 87 regular, it's considerably more expensive around here, anyway. Probably around $0.50/gallon more. Part of the price difference is that it's only premium grade, nobody seems to be selling non ethonol 87 octane, only the premium. We're only supposed to use the stuff for boats, lawnmowers, old high performance cars, etc..... Totally surprised that we're even allowed this stuff in MN, the land o corn.
