Forzen Water damage??

Just recently purchased a 95 115h.p. Johnson on a Lund Tyee. The guy I purchased it from showed it to two other people and used the Suction cup water supply for proving the engines performance. He also demonstated it to me. The engine stared right up and ran fine with a good stream of water from the pump. Excited about finding a used Teee I bought it on the spot. I brought the boat to my cabin where temps got down to about 20 degrees farenheight overnight.

My question is...
1) If there was any water left in the cooling ports could this have harmed the engine?

I made sure to tilt the engine to its most horizontal position so that the water would run out. But I am not sure if he did this. The engine was tilted up when I arrived to view it.

2) Would having the engine tilted up have caused freezing water to damage this engine?

3)If damage was caused what damage would you suspect and how should I go about testing for it so that I do not make it worse?

Thnaks Again

Mike

The motor should've drained itself. Tilting it horizontal may not have been the best idea since they're designed to drain when vertical. However I'm sure it was already drained before you did that. After running an outboard the last time, I tilt it up before I tilt it down. That way I'm fairly certain of a complete drain.

WillyBWright

I was wrong on my termonology. I ment to say that I left the engine in its most verticle position not horizontal position. Any way it sounds like it wont be a problem. I like your idea about tilting it up before tilting it down. Love this site because I learn so many new ideas.

Thnaks

Mike
