My Searay Sundancer 270 has the above drive and power unit installed. She's been fine all season (what a boat!) with silent silky shifting into both forward and reverse. Last week she was not engaging forward drive until the revs had picked up and it was really clunky. BUT reverse is still so sweet and silky. Does anyone know what's going on here? Is it the cable? gearbox? clutch? Help!

i would try adjusting the shift cable towards forward first. hopefully its just a stretched cable. if you can't get it to adjust out you may have a worn clutch cone.

Thanks arboatdr. Looks like it's the worn cone clutch option. Out she comes.

I have a 99 Chap with the B3 with the 7.4MPI. I too had a problem shifting into forward. I'd have to rev just a hair to get to shift, but it would clunk into gear. I lubed the cables especially on the stern end. I checked the distance of the mounting posts, between the shift cable and throttle cable. I found it had slipped and was less than the 3" the manual says. You might check this first before the dreaded haul out as this 2 minute simple adjustment solved my problem. Good luck.

definately go through the shift setup before the expense of hauling.

Hi

Many thanks to you all. She had to come out anyway as the Bravo leg did not have the service history I would have liked. The engineer reckons she was still wearing her original bellows! Ouch. Will let you know how things go.
PS Fishnfreak. If mine's called Jack Dee, am I allowed to refer to her as a chap?
