forward shift goes backwards

Hi, i just had a new aplha one gen one aftermarket stern drive installed and when I shift the control forward the boat goes backwards adn back wards goes forward.

What goen wrong, who can i fix it and will i do damage driving it like that.

Sounds like the drive is wrong.Maybe counter-rotating and you needed regular.

Since you just had it installed,tell the shop they screwed up and ordered the wrong one.

My bet is a "counterrotating unit" got installed by accident.

not convinced as a counter rotation drive, surely that would have to be marked on the drive clearly.

Oh the drive came from SEI, cheap and fast delivery.

I've seen both OMC and Mercruiser counter rotating drives (on boats with twins at the time) and except for the different props there was no way you could tell.

I was under the impression that SEI didn't sell the counter-rotating drives, I talked to Erica at SEI yesterday, but did not inquire about the counter-rotating drives. She said they have 12000 units in the field with a 3% failure rate. Warranty 1 year. Web site is
WWW.Sterndrive.CC NOT A PLUG, info only. I have not used them, but will try them soon.

If all you did was change a unit and now it operates in reverse I`d bet dinner it`s a C/R unit

we also had the control cable changed, is there such a thing as CR cables or are the all the same.

How could the cable be counter rotating? ? ? ? ? ? Look at how they are made.

It's hooked up on the wrong side of the control

I may be mistaken but i seem to remember that when changing the lower unit the shift control should be put into the forward position, When joining the two halves back up there is a flat linkage that needs to be aligned into a slot in the lower. If the lingage or the slot are reversed you can wind up with a backward shifter. I would not operate the boat in that condition. Take it back and get it done right. just my $0.02 good luck8)

Get the damn thing in a shop before ya kill someome. You come up to a dock, nail reverse thinking its reverse, only now its foward, ya lauch the boat over the dock killing some kid......are ya stupid or what?. Sorry, but some people just have no clue as to just no F'ing clue as to what stupid is. Hey, why don't ya just sit facing the rear...solve all yer problems.

If it is not a counter rotating unit, perhaps someone installed a left hand prop.

Do you have twin engines and replaced the port side unit with a regular rotation drive?
