Forward control box diagram wanted

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has a diagram or PDF file for the internal layout of a Mercury 40HP (early 70's) forward control box - and also some hints on making adjustments to get full throttle and the gear selection right.<br /><br />I have just bought this boat and I think the previous owner may have pulled it apart and put it back incorrectly. When we first tried the motor we could only get throttle using the warm-up lever - the Forward throttle would just make the engine die. <br />The control box has one lever (straight up for Neutral, the Forward for more revs, then Reverse is back) and a warm-up lever.<br /><br />hope someone can help<br /><br />thanks (in anticipation!)
