was wondering " or would like to see" an area for people to have a local chat/forum....... this works well for people to meet, I know Austin texas has one.

There is a Rendezvous forum, many use that to set meet ups or schedule a boat outing/trip:

You could always start a thread in Boating Activities, Rendezvous and Destinations for your area. There is a North Georgia get together thread that members talk about trips to local lakes and the like. Other areas pop up from time to time.
