What Ft. Lauderdale inlet?

There are two that I know of: Port Everglades and Lighthouse Point. They are miles apart.

Well, either way, I have found Dolphin as close as a mile and I have had to go 10 miles. It just depends on where the blue water is today, and what is floating in it.

Find the blue water. Then find a weed line or other floating "cover". I have found as many as a dozen nice ones under a log.

When I couldn't find anything afloat, I used to spread several sheets of newsprint on the water, then cruise it until they showed up.

Don't forget that once you are in the Gulf Stream it is moving you north at 3 to 7 miles an hour. If you don't have a GPS and know how to use it stay in sight of land.

Good luck. :)

Tank’s JB

I was referring to Port everglades, I don’t think I can go 10 miles out since I only have 12 gallons fuel tank on a 90hp but I will try to find that blue waters on Monday, most of the mornings I leave about 5:300 to 6:00 am and go to some buys about ½ miles south of port everglades inlet and try to catch some snappers and I see all does boat just keep going and going out to the ocean and I want to follow them but I’m new ad offshore fishing and I really want to be safe and enjoy it. I do have a gps but I don’t think I’m going to go that far 10 miles. But I do get excited when I see them coming in and see what the catch. I had never catch a dolphin before but they said it is really exciting when you’re fighting with the fish. I will be going Monday early in the morning and try it with ballyhoo and see what happens, I will keep you post it.

Ps: Do you know where reef 8A is located? I heard that is close to the port everglade inlet. Have you ever heard about it?

Thank you

Hi, Eula.

Dolphin are great fun to catch on light tackle. No more beautiful fish swims, and no fish excels it on the table.

For "schoolies" under about 20lb, use heavy fresh water tackle. Once you have them located, cast a 1 oz. Krocodile spoon or similar flashy lure and hold on. Many spectacular jumps. When you find a school, keep a fish in the water to hold the school near the boat.

Do not bring a green fish into your boat. Gaff it and straight to the fish box. A hot, green dolphin can trash your boat real fast.

Bon Voyage! :)
