yep, i reckon that's very true... and after saying what i said. i'll fess up and say i've done w/o too... guess in the op's case, the question is, how far away is home?but I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't be the first to do without...
Down at the marina pulling risers to check them and the exhaust shutters. Forgot my torque wrench at home. Necessary, or can i do it by feel?
or can i do it by feel?
I would say if you have to ask, you probably should get the torque wrench.
Some may use the "calibrated elbow" method but they usually do a lot of wrench turning and know how tight tight they are getting bolts and more so how even from one to the other they are tightening bolts.
And I would bet Bond-o picks up a wrench more than to work on his boat engine once in a while.
Not a good idea, if your semi-calibrated elbow over torques the bolts, then you go back and re-torque it with a torque wrench you could have less torque. Now you have a leaky gasket. If you torque it without a torque wrench, and it doesn't leak, leave it alone.I'd take my best shot at tighting the bolts at the marina and then torque them correctly when I got home. .
I went back. The extra 12 minutes was worth the peace of mind.
