That spec should be supplied with the piston by the manufacturer.

most forged piston manufactures now use the engine manufacturers standard bore size and manufacture their pistons to fit.
some of old did not and created some issues, if in doubt shoot the manufacture an email most have a tech service.

Re: forged piston clearance v4 looper

This question comes up occasionally, and with modern-day pistons, trying to figure clearance is a thing of the past, unless you know the expansion charactoristics and metalurgy of the piston. well, we don't, only the manufacturer knows, and the proper way to size is measure the cylinder as you bore to whatever oversize you intend to use based on factory specs of std. bore.
For example, Wiseco says for a 3.5" bore, going .020 over, bore to 3.520-3.521...the clearance is built into the piston..that info is of no use to us as rebuilders (the clearance). The factory std. bore size is the measurement we need to know.
Now, one exception would be when we start souping things up a bit, then it's trial and error.
85-87 120 to 140?????

Good engine...very strong. I've got an 88 120 with the 3.6+ bore that has a bad piston/cylinder too.....winter project for (eventually) a Hydrostream...
