hello, can you help me identify this plug/screw thing please? i didnt take a pic of it but, it is on the side of my block under my exhaust manifold, (not on the manifold,) it takes a large allen wrench to unscrew it, and about as big around as a quarter, i took this plug out a few months ago, thinking it was a freeze plug and lost it? cant find it anywhere wich is totaly my luck! it was painted the same grey color as the engine so im unsure if it was brass, with this plug out, you can almost see down into the oil pan. and can i just purchase a new one at an auto parts store?

thanks so much in advance for your help!

Agree,It should be pipe threads and a brass plug should work fine.

If it was threaded it was NOT a freeze plug. Besides, what is commonly called a freeze plug is not really a freeze plug. They are core plugs and are necessary to clean the water jackets after the engine block is cast. Sometimes a core plug will pop out should an engine freeze occur but generally something else cracks first. You should be able to find a plug in the plumbing department at any respectable hardware store or home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes. Otherwise you might check one of the commercial heating and air conditioning firms.

What you need to do is get a real OEM service manual before you screw something up big time. Even if you had found a "Freeze Plug" and they were actually called that, removing core plugs is NOT how you drain the water out of your engine. Core plugs are a one time use item and then they get replaced.

M-6026-B302 was the part number for 1.25 inch kit to install threaded core plugs.
