Fellas,
just bought a 1979 Glastron/Carlson 23' day cruiser with the Berkely Packajet combo.
It's a Ford 460/Berkely jet combo. I was wondering if anyone know anything about the Packajet combo?
Like is the motor any different than the car/truck 460? Is the camshaft any different? Ect...
Thanks for any info!

Re: Ford 460 Packajet

Hmm, I'm surprised no one answered.

I had an OMC 460 King Cobra in my current boat. (That I replaced with a Mercruiser/Bravo)

Not familiar with your boat.... Is it an enclosed engine compartment?

The engines are usually not much different. If you have a "wet" exhaust, you'll most likely have a "Marine" cam similar to an RV or truck type cam (to prevent/reduce reversion) and make max torque/HP at under 5000 RPM...

I'll also add that I not all that conversant in jets..... (I fly Jets but I don't BOAT jets!!)
Is it normal to run them above 5000 RPM?

Except for jacketed exhaust manifolds and risers (if installed) mechanical distributor advance(no vacuum) and marine starter/ALT (if enclosed engine compartment) the engine is pretty much the same as any "truck" 460.

If you have "dry" stacks, you can get away with a really "trick" cam because you don't have to worry about sucking up any water.

Can you post a picture?

Regards,

Rick

Should also have brass core plugs. Street engines use steel.

Yes the engine is enclosed. Hour meter says a tad over 500 hours. Don't know if that's good or bad.
This is the only pic I have of it right now.
