It really is very simple. We call all do it with a bit of effort.
In the past few weeks I have seen 20 cent differences between gas stations.
If we all make the effort and go religiously to the cheapest one in our area, even if it is only a one cent difference, competition will force the other stations to lower their prices. At this point change stations to the one that is now the cheapest.
If you can convince your friends to do the same,it will make a humongous difference in gas prices within a few weeks.

Yea, I now pay $2.83 per gallon.
Other stations within a 5 mile radius is still at $2.90 and lots are empty most of the time.

I always do business with the cheapest non alcohol spiked stations in God's Country: Chevron, Safeway n' Costco, which does have some effect if others do the same.

While I appreciate your incouragement of personal responsibility and market forces, instead of central corntrol, you are overestimating the impact my friend. Oil really is a world wide commodity and the largest part of the price of a gallon of gas is crude oil cost that is determioned by the truly big cornsumers on the margin, (the last five years those big guns are China n' India). That said, it always pays to do business with the most efficient providers in any area of cornsumption where you have choice. You may drive down the refining margins a bit, (which are happening due to a fall off in cornsumption do to price). This will corntinue until magically we reach an equalibrium with supply vs demand. Great Post Rolmops!! There is hope yet. JR
