I have '97 75hp Force by Mercury . I know the lower units are the same but is the output H.P. the same so I could run a Mercury prop and get the same performance?

Re: Force vs. Merc

I don't think so. Force was never rated at the prop like all the other makes. take the 75 rating and subtract 10 - 15% and that is what the Force is putting out.

Craig

Thanks Craig but the prop I was thinking about is the same one listed for a 60 hp Merc. too. I thought someone might have tried it before I spent $100+ finding out it wouldn't work.

Re: Force vs. Merc

All Force outboards are rated at the prop since 1987(A requirement of BIA certification).......they are cross flow engines and do not have the hole shot torque loopers have......aside from that they are real engines that do what they say. Prop variations depend on lower unit ratio and engine rpm envelope. Your previous prop may or may not work because of these variables. If the rpm and gear ratio and Hp are the same the prop should work.

Re: Force vs. Merc

Thanks FlyBoy, That's more like what I was looking for and I had heard about hp ratings at prop but wasn't sure. My Force prop was a lot smaller dia.& pitch. Force = 10 1/8" X 15 Pitch vs. 12 1/2"X 23Pitch for the Merc.....seems like a big difference but I can't find a prop calculator that lets me compare dia., pitch, ratio, rpm, and theoretical speed. I totaled the original lower unit and it was replaced with a stock Merc unit. Guess I'll have to experiment
