Hi

Just heard about Force L drive - can anyone give me a hint on where i can find a picture of such an engine?

Was it a 2 stroke engine with a mercruiser ourdrive - or?

Re: Force L drive

It was a Force 2 stroke power head with an out drive
I think not related to the Mercruiser.
I think even the Force fans will agree the L drive was a nightmare.
OMC had a 2 stroke I/O in the 60s.I think there is a web site for the OMC boats.

Re: Force L drive

The L-drive was made up of a 2 cycle powerhead from an outboard, a "custom" drive unit, connected to a lower unit from an outboard.

L-drive is a bad set up
The engine is a big problem.
The drive unit is a bigger problem, NO parts are available, new or used.
Many of the parts went bad and none of them are available.

The boat was designed to accommodate only that little powerhead.

No other drive unit will work.

No other engine will work.

Re: Force L drive

I have a 1992 Bayliner Bowrider with a Force 120HP L-drive. It's actually been phenominal for 13 years!!
Have only had to replace 1 waterpump impeller and the exhaust bellows.
The post about the stator problem sounds like the same problem I now have. Lost 2 cyls and ½ way back to dock lost the other 2 cyls. Glad I always carry two 6ft paddles!
Where can I get a flywheel puller for this thing??

Re: Force L drive

i bought a harmonic balancer puller from an auto parts store, comes with the puller and different size bolts. The threaded holes in my flywheel (force 125) were smaller than the ones supplied with the puller so I bought some that fit from a hardware store, and on the first pull, pulled them right out of the flywheel, stripping all the holes. I drilled and tapped the flywheel holes to the size of bolt that came with the puller and it worked great. torque the puller down a bit, tap the center pulling bolt, then torque, then tap, then torque then tap and eventually it will pop off. I think it was only 13 bucks US.

Re: Force L drive

Thx baxtr. Really was hoping to not have to do that, but that's life ,huh! Suppose I'll just dig out the old tap set and cuss the idiot that decided a 12-24 thread was cool!
Yeah, parts aren't easy to find, BUT I've had very little trouble with this boat (1992 Bayliner Capri 2070?). 8)
