I have a Force 9.9 - oe116603 this is a 1984 I think and looks brand new. But...I cannot get the lower unit off. When the shifte is put in reverse it will come down 1/4 inch and I have pounded on it with a plastic hammer. What is wrong? I see no screw there as a Utube video says there should be. In the Schematics it seems to show the screw connection about 6 inches further up?

There's a screw that holds the upper shift shaft to the lower shaft.
It might be hard to see??

Post pics of the mid and lower unit.

I thought the 95 lower was 1 piece, but diagram from Mercruiserparts site and Crowley have same diagram.

Wow, a one piece lower unit. Man, Have they thought over every trick in the book to cheapen these things? No, this is the 2 peice LU. Yes, I found the small screw in a ridiculous place. You have to view it from different angles from the front. I know it is going to be a (%$&#%$& to get it back in. Got the impeller in the mail today. If I don't return you know it went well lol

Glad you found it.
How about a pic of the motor and screw location?
It might help someone?
