Force 75 restrictor plate?

I have a '96 Force 75 with what appears to be a small restrictor plate of sorts mounted on the upper right hand corner of the carb inlet. Anyone know the purpose of this? Just wondering if it was used to "detune" the motor for a lower hp rating or something. Considered removing it, but I'd rather not chance it unless I know the original purpose of it. Doesn't seem to do anything more than block off part of the inlet/venturi, but I may be mistaken. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer.

Re: Force 75 restrictor plate?

Welcome Kenso.

From what I've heard from several mechanics over the years, the plate's purpose is to create turbulence or swirling in the airflow. Supposedly to help the air/fuel mix.

It might be true, or not. But many motors have them.

Re: Force 75 restrictor plate?

I have a Force 70 with a similar plate. If you look inside the carb there is another restriction on the engine manifold. I've ground my manifold round and reduced increased the opening to the full size of the carb opening. More air flow more power.
