Force 70Hp 1991 charging issues

Hi all hope some of you more knowledgeable people can help on this.
Tested voltage rectifier, think I may have a problem. On testing between yellow wire from stator, black test lead in red from rectifier i get reading as in pic. Same on both yellow wires. On the other red wire just get LO no matter which way round I have props.

otboardignitiondotcom has test procedures for lots
of motors.
Always include the year, model when asking questions.
I find I get better results when I use an analog meter not
the digital you show.
It's still early I'm sure someone else will have different
answers.
The OEM and aftermarket parts can have different results/
readings on certain ignition parts.

The AC from the stator is on the two yellow wires. Measure the voltage between those two yellow wires. It should be ~ 20 vac. if I remember right.
Either way the AC is rectified in the Rectifier/regulator t
o higher than 14 volts. The regulator keeps the voltage from going too high for the battery.

Looks like your meter is set to measure resistance (OHMs). To check the stator winding, you have to measure the resistance between the two yellow wires. It should read very low OHMs, can't remember exactly but I think it's like 2 to 6 OHMs. Maybe even less. If it reads significantly higher than 2 or 6 OHM's then the stator winding is bad.

To check the voltage rectifier, you have to have the motor running and the red leads on the rectifier have to be connected. If you disconnect the red leads with the motor running and take a measurement, you won't get an accurate reading becuase the rectifier is not under the battery load. You typically take a voltage measurement at the battery, or you can shove the red meter test lead under the clear insulation on the red lead from the rectifier, (make sure the red lead stays connectedto the wire in the harness) and the black meter lead on a good clean bare metal spot on the engine block. With the engine running at approximately 1500 to 2500 RPM's you should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC. If it reads OK at the rectifier, then go to the battery and check it across the battery terminals. If you read 12.7 volts DC or lower at the battery with the engine at 1500 to 2500 RPM's, you have a bad connection between the rectfier and the battery. Maybe a bad connection between the negative battery lead and the engine block.
