I have a 1988 Force 50HP . I just bought it and took to the lake and ran it for 20min. when horn sounded and it stalled. I removed the lower unit to replace the impeller and have ran ito problems. At the top of the driveshaft the boot was ripped and off and when I pulled off the lower unit the water tube came with it. I cannot get it back into the motor and need some suggestions how to get it to stay up. I called a dealer and they want $29 for the rubber boot and 4.50 for the retainer for the top of the drive shaft. Any suggestions on replacing the boot with some other rubber boot at a more reasonable cost? I am a new member and this is my first boat. I bought a Clymer Manual but it really doesnt explain too much. Thanks for any help.

$29 for ANY boat part sounds pretty reasonable, lol. Remember, a boat is a big hole in the water that you're supposed to throw money into.
