Force 50 wont start without giving throttle

I have an 88 Force 50. Starts right up on a cold engine. After running it for 30 minutes across the bay, I shut it down for 2 minutes.. when trying to restart, engine cranks, but will not turn over without manually giving it throttle on the motor itself.

I dont believe this to be a major issue, rather just an adjustment that needs to be made. Is this a correct assumption? What should I look to adjust and is this the correct solution or is there another potential issue? Thanks!

Check the idle setting make sure it is set around 1000 RPM in neutral and 700~800 in gear idle in the water. There should also be a "fast idle" position at the control lever. There are two ways of doing this depending on the style. One, pulls out the lever towards the driver by grabbing the center portion and then pushing it forward. Two, push a center button at the pivot point and push forward. This mitigates having to go to the motor to open the carbs.

Thanks for the reply. I have the style where you push the button in and then move the control forward. I dont believe this is working properly as when I use the fast idle, there is no change in the throttle - as in no change in rpms is noticed as i use it.. thoughts?

Check the idle setting again, making sure it is not max out or screwed all the way in. If it is, then the fast idle will not work. If this is the case, you need to mechanically zero the carb's throttle with the cam advance and zero timing. This means with #1 at TDC, the timing should be at zero, the idle screw barely touching against the engine block, cam's hashmark inline with the eccentric screw and the carb's throttles fully closed.

Thereafter, set idle rpm with the idle screw and yes, the fast idle position should increase rpm at idle neutral.
