Okay, after running many rabbits to get here, I foudn out what the problem was. I wasn't getting spark in #1 cylinder and decided to replace the offending coil with one I had saved from my other motor that burned up. That didnt' help, so I decided I would repalce the CD module.
In the process I discovered on of the wires from the stator had broken off whre it connects wit the CD module wires. I reattached the wire and foudn there was now spark to #1 cylinder. Took the boat out to the lake and it ran so darn fast that it was kind of scary. At wot I was probably doing 35-40. Just goes to show that the carb is not always the cause of poor performance. Thanks to everybody, especially Eurolarva, who made suggestions.

Re: Force 50 Mystery Solved

Glad to hear you got it fixed Docdoc. One nice thing about these problems is you learn an awful lot about a motor when looking for problems.

I reread your original post and that probably explains the oily gas residue in the motor. Gas is shooting into that cylinder and not burning off. Hopefully now that you have spark it will get rid of that problem.
