A friend of mine has a 35 HP Force Mod # 357F918, Ser # 020466. First off I need to know what the year is. Now the problem. they noticed that is was peeing very weak at the start of the season. This motor is on a family pontoon. The boat was taken out and about 10 to 15 minutes out the alarm went off and they kept going and the motor started smoking and died. I know, not good. Now when you turn the key on the alarm is still on. Other than a new water pump, what else should be checked and what would cause the alarm to still be going off. I'm thinking check compression and spark at very least. I'm guessing possible head gasket also. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have worked on my Evinrude motors but never a Force so these are new to me.

Re: Force 35 HP overheated

model number is 357F91 "B"

It is a 1991 model.

Yep, impeller, spark, compression, then if you have to pull the head, replace the gasket and do a close inspection of the rings and cylinder walls.

Then whack your friend up side the head for what he did. Tell him that alarm was a test, and he failed. :)

Yes a good smack down is in store. It was actually his brother in-law that did it on the family boat. Any suggestions why the alarm is still going off and what to do to shut it off. I have not looked at the motor for him yet but I'm hoping the wire has not melted causing it to short out.
