force 1996 120 xl shift shaft came up

hi on my force i removed the shift shaft to inspect and when you look down where the shaft came from there is no teeth to put it back into.. and it just spins i cant get it to go into gear anymore

OOPS!!
There's a small piece that's dropped down inside, called the shift control cam.
It fits on the end of the shift shaft and pushes the cam follower to shift gears.
Gotta take it apart and reassemble.
Get a factory manual if possible, if not the Clymer or Seloc might have the info you need.
