Hello my Force / Crysler friends!
I am a brand new Force / Chrisler motor user and just started to open up absolutely ne horizons for myself (my family) The thing is that I have bought a boat 1989 Bayliner from the stranger which (of caurse) told me that the boat is great and runs nice... God give them all health and prosperity, however @ my very first trip the engine choked off about 5 minutes after the start and went on the fast gear... Called my mechanic again, saing that the engine choked off... We have ran the motor on the water with different adjustments for about a three hours and he said that everything is good now. O.K. next time I went out with my brother and father through raritan river to the raritan bay ( not nowing that the problem is still waiting for us outthere)
We tried to cath the fish @ the Bay after 50 min trip - nothing then chaNGED OUR SPOT FOR ABOUT 30 MIN run and then an hour @ the place - nothing so i decided to go back to the river - went back fine... dropped the ancor and then stayed for about 4 to 5 hours catching some blue fish - got 6 -- 5 to 6 feet good catch. Then I was trying to start the motor in idle and was able to start only in very high RPM's 2 - to 3 thousand on neutral it was chocking off and missing (all over sudden) and did not want to go well when I was trying to change to neutral - to change to the gear -- was completely dying off. Once I put it in Neutral -- middle position (not high idle) it was dead. HARDLY made to the dock... Everyone was stressed including myself. What the hell I have filled the tank with 93 amoco super mixing 50:1 16 ounces to 6 gal of fuel and it does not work well called my mechanic again - he said that my plugs were extremely dirty and therefore did not work. Said I should go out with my boat again - there is no problems,
Now I am really scared - do not know what to think and what to do???
Please advise.

So am I reading this right? Your spark plugs fouled and you replaced them and now the motor runs fine again? If this is the case carry a couple of sets of extra plugs. YOu could run motor leaner but you run the risk of piston and head damage. Maybe go down to 91 octane to help reduce the fouling problems

Use regular gas. Premium in most 2-strokes is a waste of money and can actually be harmful under certain circumstances because most contain alcohol which can screw-up the oil mixing with the gas. But that's not your problem here. Go ahead and use-up what you have.

I'm not sure how old your other sparkplugs were. One of the hazards of buying a used boat from an individual is not knowing how they were maintained. On such used boats, new sparkplugs, gearlube, and water pump are automatic. That way you know what you have.

Good luck and I hope your future outings go well. It's a new animal you're dealing with, and you've already learned that it's not as easy as jumping in your car and driving off. It should be and can be, but there are a lot of differences that you'll eventually get used to.

Re: Force 1989 85 HP won"t start after 2 hours of good work.

Thanks for your prompt reply & kind attention, Sir. Actually I can not switch to 91 octane, since there are 87 & 89 in our area only except 93 (super). But I can switch to 89 & try againg. The think is - I thought that I have some kind of temperature problem since it was working for 2 hours @ 95F (not higher) but then all over sudden I could not start it and it was caughing and and sound like missing and did not hold the neutral so I could not change to gear... I will take it to the water againg (not far , but for the long time) and will try to burn the whole tank of what I have there. By the way R there any ways to drain it?
Thanks again .
Greg.

Noted all details, thanks for advice. Please advise if 95F working temperatute - is what I have now is good enough to burn the mix or that might be the problem here since it is not running hot enough to burn everything and eventually clogging the plugs and making deposits>>>?
Thanks for your attention.
Greg.

If motor is running good till you shut it off it almost sounds like your motor is flooding when you shut it off. When you restart do not use the choke. I am not sure if this motor has the fuel enrichment system but if you are engaging that you could be flooding the motor on restart. I agree with Willy on the 87 octane gas but did not mention it because of some disagreement here on iboats.
