Force 150 starter drags & quits (sometimes)

'91 force 150 starter drags & then turns over rapidly. 2 times recently it dragged & then went dead. They battery is fine. At the same time it appears that the trim quit working as well. By jiggling with the throttle/gear shift(I think), it started working again. Sounds like a short in the throttel mechanism right? Any ideas on how to fix?

mine was doing the same thing.<br />hanging and smoking and stuff.<br />had the starter rebuilt - works great now.<br />still a little slow when you first hit the switch, but i think it's do to the motor being real tight.
