Hello everyone, thanks for all the help you’ve given me in the past with my 150 hp force outboard. Last fall I had the misfortune of fishing line getting wound around the prop shaft behind the propeller that took out the seals and lost all gear grease. When they went to drain the old grease and put in fresh nothing but water came out! That’s when I took the propeller off and found the fishing line. So I replaced the lower unit with a used one that I found on eBay. Everything hooked up fine , and the motor started up real well on the muffs, but the motor only was able to be shifted in reverse and throttle properly. When trying to shift in forward the shift her only moved about an inch forward from neutral and the gears engaged, but I couldn’t get the lever to go all the way forward to increase the throttle speed. it appears that the interlock lever is blocking the tab on the tower rod, which controls the carburetors so that it won’t allow it to increase in RPM. I have a service manual and it says to adjust the interlock lever which sits on the top of the upper shift rod to align with the tab on the tower. And it is aligned pretty much dead on. Any help as far as what to do would be so appreciated!

Does it shift when the linkage is unhooked??
Motor running? needs to run to allow shifting.
Unhook it and shift by hand, as you shift turn the prop as it needs to move to allow the gear/dog to mesh.

Yes, it shifts into both forward and reverse. I was able to get some help from my wife and when she worked the remote control, I was back at the motor and noticed that the interlock lever seem to block the movement of the tower year to keep it from rotating in order to accelerate. When going in reverse the tower ear moved under the interlock, lever and accelerates just fine.

Well, great news, I found the problem. I had turned the shift cable clamp upside down, and fastened it up that way, and it was jamming up, preventing the shifter to move to the forward position. After correcting that it shifts nice and smooth now!
