I put my boat away after last season with no problems. I am now getting it ready for the new season and went to start it but had some problems. First I noticed the starter was staying up in the flywheel so I WD-40 it and that took care of that. No when I try to start it, it turns the motor over for a second or two then starts sounding like something is grinding in the starter. I took the starter off and had it tested at a local shop and they said it was OK. Took the battery back out and had it tested, no problems. All cables are clean and tight. What else can I try?
Sorry for the long post but i don't know what else to do.
thanks!
Craig

hey
You could try checking the carbs and making sure that there is no water in them. You should also open the motor and check that the fuel hose is not bent.

P.S try and help me out with my problems mate they are posted on page 1 or 2

Re: Force 125 Starter Problems

cdc,

It sounds like the starter is not getting enough juice or electic current. If the starter man said it is ok, I would start by checking the battery. If their is a seperate starter solenoid, I would put a meter on it to make sure it is working properly. Then you could check the amount of current to the starter using a meter. A service manual would help you by telling you the amount of volts that should be going through the solenoid and at the starter. I hope this helps.

Good luck,

jroberts

Could be a bad bendix drive on the starter just under the little gear.

You say you tested the battery and starter. What is the voltage at the terminal on the starter + to the starter housing - during extended cranking?

Re: Force 125 Starter Problems

I took the starter back to the shop and all they did was put 12 volts to to see the bendix move up and spin. They told me to check the battery. I took the battery back to where I bought it from and they put a load test on and said it was fine! I did try to bypass the solenoid with the hot from the battery and got the same results. Is there a way someone could load test the starter to see if the bendix is not working under load?
This one has me confused!!
Thanks!
Craig

You should go back and grease the starter shaft. That W-40 is like KY jellie, it doesn't last long. Try the starter on the engine with the plugs removed and have large cleaned surface contacts on all the electrical connections from battery to starter.
