My motor has been stored for the winter in the down position with the prop removed. I noticed a trace of lower end oil that seaped from around the shaft seal. I had the seals replaced at the begining of last years season. Is this concern for alarm? I operate my boat in fresh water and never hit the lower end. I would think the seal should last longer than that.

Thanks!

Craig

I'd be concerned. maybe you should preasure test the lower.

Did you do the work or did you have a shop replace the seals? if a shop did it, they ought to have preasure/vacume checked it.

When the motor is used, the lower will warm just a bit. increase in temp causes expansion. if not well sealed, air in lower will "expand" out. when motor is off/cool, lower temp will now have low pressure in lower. if in the water, will suck water into lower unit. thus the reason for "pressure" and "vacume" tests.

get it checked.

Good Luck
