Force 120 (1990) and (1996)

I have a 1990 force 120 with some bad cylinders and a 1996 force 120 with a bad lower unit. Anyone know if the power head of the 1996 could be used on the older 1990 force unit? We took both apart and found quite a few differences as far as mounts and lower unit. Gear rod seem to be a little different. Any suggestions??

Sorry wont interchange as the 120 evolved several times in the 90's. 89-late 93 used the earlier Force ignition, in late 94-95 ignition was swapped to the Merc style ignition and crankshaft was changed to accept the Merc style lower unit(13 spline). In 96 the ignition changed to the Merc CDM module style..
