Re: For everyone annoyed by texting addiction...

Text addicts do annoy the bat snot out of me. We had nieces and nephews here at the lake last summer. I swear I wouldn't recognize them since their faces were buried in their phones during their whole visit.

Awhile back I was in Wally World and I saw a young text addict approaching. The young addict was walking down the aisle with her head buried in her phone oblivious to her surroundings.

Just out of curiosity, I stopped and pretended to check out the dvd selection. She never looked and bounced off me on her way down the aisle. She never lifted her head from the phone.

At my house aimless texting is done in the same place as the other addicts (smokers) go when they want to satisfy their habit.......outside, rain or shine.

Good commercial. Good friend of mine works for Verizon Wireless. He's texting 24/7. Drives me nuts.

This is my phone $10 POS. Makes texting so not worth the effort.

There is such a thing as situational awareness. Walking around with your nose buried in your phone tells everyone around you, including pick pockets, muggers, and other dregs of society, that you are ripe for the taking.

ok, texting started out as a way to type a quick message on a cell phone and you didn't have to talk to the receiving person ( i think anyway)

now they have phones, cackle berrys, him-roids, or droids or some dumb thing you can talk into that will sent the text as you speak to it so you don't have to type anymore.

I DON'T GET IT (well i do, kinda)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for texting. It's just that some people lack common courtesy. I used to get annoyed when I was out to dinner at a restaurant and someone else at the table would answer the cell phone. Most people realize that is rude but for me texting at the table for example is just as rude.

BTW I think it's funny that my spell check doesn't recognize "texting" as a word.

It is an epidemic, it shows you how much we are hooked to technology. I still believe that one day human will be control by machines if we keep up this pace. I don't think it is just texting but all the other stuff that smart phone can do nowaday.

In the world of weird news, there's an app developed in the U.K that allows user to put a sample of their urine on it then plug the other end into a smart phone. The phone would tell them if they have STD or not. They should name it iCrab. :D

I text and use my smart phone a LOT, it is for my business and I NEED these things.
However, there is a time and place. I am driving around Baltimore all day, and I do my texting in my truck, while I am parked!

Those kids with their nose buried in their phones aren't even using a real language, read some of that crap sometimes.

My wife is a new Jr. High teacher in English and Social Studies. I'm amazed that her kids can't even recognize a noun or a verb, let alone compose an actual sentence.

God help this country...

I don't text. Complete wast of my time. If you need to get a hold of me or leave me a message, call. If I don't answer, leave a message.

I don't even answer my phone anymore unless I am expecting the call or its family.

People get used to it pretty quick. At least the smart ones do. If you're stupid, it will take you longer to realize what is going on.

I love that commercial Scipper!!!!! But to be fair, I do text a little bit.

My friends and or people I know will not leave a voicemail, but a 1 letter text either inbound or outbound will get a phoned back response. Saves a lot of time.

Some people I know will only respond to a text.:confused:

Smart phones my arse....

my boy does the text thing. basically annoys me.

myself. i don't text. i don't get texts either. if i do, i'm suspicious someone is just trying to sell me something and delete it since i don't have anyone that would text me. not even the boy. he knows i'd likely miss the text. he just has to call me, like in the old days.. i'm starting to think i'm getting to be an ol fuddy duddy... so be it (so far)....

I've been in IT for 12 years, I manage 23 servers and 200 workstations, and I DO NOT text! There is such a thing as being "too connected". Unless I am on call, when I get home from work I don't touch a computer, phone, or any other personal electronic gadget.

My wife got a smart phone a short while back, she texted like crazy for the first couple months, but now it's rare.

Our 9 year old daughter has been hounding us for a cell phone, i;ve told her that until she is driving age she doesn't need her own phone. I apparently am the meanest parent in the world.

On yesterdays news.

CNN) -- All that texting and social networking by teenagers could come back to byte them.

A new study by the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine links poor health behaviors -- including smoking, drinking and sexual activity -- to hyper-texting and hyper-networking.

The study defines hyper-texting as sending more than 120 messages a day. Hyper-networking is spending more than three hours per school day on social network sites like Facebook, it said.

"The startling results of this study suggest that when left unchecked texting and other widely popular methods of staying connected can have dangerous health effects on teenagers," said Scott Frank, lead researcher on the study. "This should be a wake-up call for parents to not only help their children stay safe by not texting and driving, but by discouraging excessive use of the cell phone or social websites in general."

Hyper-texting was reported by nearly 20 percent of the Midwestern teens surveyed, according to the study.

According to the study, teens who are hyper-texters are:

-- two times more likely to have tried alcohol

-- nearly three-and-a-half times more likely to have had sex

-- 40 percent more likely to have tried cigarettes

-- 41 percent more likely to have used illicit drugs

-- 43 percent more likely to be binge drinkers

-- 55 percent more likely to have been in a physical fight

-- 90 percent more likely to report four or more sexual partners

Your not the meanest parent in the world but today I'd say 80-90% of kids have a cell phone by the time they are in high school.

Being from a generation that grew up with no cell phones in H.S. I could not comprehend what a big deal it was for my daughter to be the 1 girl without a phone when she started high school. I still think it's silly but times are changing, and that can't be denied.
