For all I know, this may be a sin to ask here but I'll ask and find out?

How do I find part #s for Mercury outboard? I'm not a wealthy person and I need bearings for the lower unit of my 1993 75HP Mercury outboard. Between my shop manual and on-line, I've been able to find many exploded views but they only show something like "Bearing #5" with no part #s. Can someone point to an exploded view the actual part #s so I can buy them myself or is that something you don't ask here?
If you can, thank you if not thanks also and
STAY WELL!
Karl.

Do you have the serial number for your outboard? There are plenty of places that you can find the part numbers, and we are always glad to help you get there, but without a serial number, its impossible. If you can post the serial number of your motor, we can happily find you a diagram and/or the part numbers you will need.

As Thom said, with a serial number we can link you to the iBoats diagrams. Our diagrams tell you Bearing #5 is 84-1234. Don't order that number - Without the serial number I may have made up a valid part number.

There are several actual Mercury dealers, and Mercury itself, that have the parts diagrams and parts lists online, they seem easier to use than other retailer sites to me. They not only list by serial number/year, but give a list of other motors that use the same part.

Not sure about the bearings in your setup, but usually bearings have numbers on them. And you can search for that number and see if it is a bearing. Usually that type search yields a cheaper cost then going through a motor company's part number. Bearing are usually picked from off-the-self types rather then being uniquely made for most anything. It cost way less to use off the shelf stock that way. JMHO

I can find the Mercury Dealers exploded view but it's set up to make me order only through them, I can only find the bearings through Mercury listed as part #1, ect. I can't find the actual part #. I buy bearings regularly for the brewery I worked for so I know that very few bearings are specific for a certain item and are usually much less expensive to buy from another source.

The reason I can't pull the #s off the bearing is that I have a chance to drop it all off at my machine shop. They want the bearings ready to install when they pull them so I don't have to tie up the shop. I guess it's a little unusual but I've been dealing with this machine shop for 50 years. They treat me better if I have everything ready to go and it saves them time.

Anyway, someone said they could provide me a source for bearing if I supplied the ser. #?
Thanks again and STAY WELL!
Karl.

Karl, When I rebuilt my 1976 40HP Johnson, the lower gear box bearing part number OMC listed was $56 dollars each. The part number on the bearing itself was an of the shelf and cost me around $10 dollars for the exact same number on the bearing. That is a significant price difference for OMC to buy in bulk and re-stamp the box with their part number. But I think you know that as well. If you could only get either the part number or somehow measure the bearing to spec out. Good luck with the parts breakdown.

If you can get even the manufactures number, do a search for it and some places provide alternate numbers and/or measurement. Then you would be golden. Just a thought.

Exactly. I REALLY doubt Mercury had a bearing made just to their spec.? Why would anybody wanting to make money do that? You make a design and find a common bearing to fit that.
Anyway, can anyone here point me towards an exploded view showing part #s that I can at least reference?
Thanks again and
ENJOY THE HOLIDAY weekend!
Karl.
