I posted a question the other day concerning my ignorance, I purposely plugged the float bowl vent thinking it was one of the holes that was supposed to be plugged with a lead shot. Through the genius of iboats I learned the errors of my ways.

Question: The float bowl vent goes through the side (under the throat of the carb), mays a 90 degree turn straight down. There is a gasket between the two parts of the carb, there is no hole in the gasket to accomodate this vent hole, nor is there a corresponding hole in the bottom part of the carb to match this hole anyway. So, what is the purpose of this vent? It seems to be a hole to nowhere.

The vent hole leads to the open area of the float chamber.... not to its metal sealing surface. The vent hole would be on the underside of the upper body that faces the fuel area of the float chamber.
