I had asked a while back if it was possible to cut off the end of transduser wire, drill a hole in my PowerDrive shaft and put the wire inside the shaft. The wire comes out of the shaft where the shaft and motor screw together. I would then solder the wires back. I talked to Humminbird and they said no. I had done it before on an Eagle but that was may years ago.

Well I did it and it worked. The biggest issue was to rewrap the wires the same way they came. I used aluminum foil to shield the wires from themselves and file the hole with silicone. I tested it this weekend and it worked just fine.

Re: Follow up on transducer splicing & trolling motor

I have a Humminbird on my trolling motor and cut the cable with no change in quality of images. My Hummer uses the quick-connect slide mount so I permanently attached the transducer to the trolling motor and cut the cable and used a shielded microphone plug and mounted the shielded microphone recepticle on a panel with other control switches. This keeps all of the Hummers wiring below the deck and a very clean deck.
