When winterising this motor, I have used fogging oil each year, taking off carb cover plate to access the three carbs. After this, I remove plugs and squirt a shot in each cylinder, turn it over a few times and put plugs back in.

Is there a better way to do this i.e. without having to remove the plastic cover?

Not really, but over time the plastic threads will probably wear, and I'll doubtless drop a screw or two which will end up rolling to an inaccessible spot....or into the lake.:D

I may just drill three holes in the cover in-line with the carb intakes that I can plug with rubber grommets....or just take of the air-box cover each time. ;)

Did same in a one carbed engine and worked fantastic, as didn't have a rubber grommet, just placed small square duck tape piece on top cover hole.

Same here. Drilled a small hole in the air box when i had the carb off for rebuild. Works slick for fogging the 8hp 2stroke.

Tim,

That idea is fine. I would definitely put rubber plugs in the holes, to maintain the flame-arrestor capability of the intake.

And you wouldn't want to suck any tape debris into the reeds.
