Hey Guys & Gals,
I just picked up a 1985 Bayliner Capri 1600 (I think:confused:), with a 85 Hp Force motor for $300. I took it out on a lake near my house ( Lake Anna for those in VA), well it ran well untill the started craped out. My new start will be here on Friday :D, This is my 1st boat, and I'm having a ball with it. I have a few questions for the group.
1. Wiring:
The wiring looks dlike it was done but a complete dumass (speaker wire!!!). I have attached a quick dirgram I drew. Does any one have any commemts or sugestions? Where can I find a Tach? I understand theres are 20 pole? I'm guessing my autometer gauges from my old drag car will not work?
2. Interior:
The interior is, well not there, I reglassed the floor with new marine plywood, but I have no seats. Does anyone knwo where I can get the seat that go back be the transom on the sides? How about the shelfs that run dow the sides of the boat?
3. Engine:
Has anyone use Boyseen Power reeds on there Force?
I took the carbs of, cleaned them (LOTS OF GUNK). and ran a can of seaform thru w/ 1 gallon of gas. She seems to run much better (throttle response is great now)
4. Steering:
The steering is very hard, I have check for cable binding, and gressed everything I can think of....Any suggestions?

Thanks in advace for all the help, I have been reading on here none stop...It's a wealth of information.

John

Hey Hoss,

I don't mean to sound like a homer, but you can get the seats and tach here on iboats. However, if you want to go as inexpensive as possible, walmart.com has them to.

My first boat was a 1985 Bayliner Capri 16ft cuddy with a 85hp force. It was a fun little boat. :)
Now I own a 30ft Sea Ray. :D

you will not find anywhere , the seats or the side rails...you will have to fabricate them yourself...look at my boat below....I bought aftermarket lounge seats and, fortunately, I have the stern seats so I can have them recovered....I am currently restoring the deck and gunwale panels...good luck bro , and welcome to iboats...

No problem.. Well the Tech I tried was from my old Drag car. It will not work with the 2 stroke, for what i have readed my 2 stoke has a 20 pole magento. Wally world only had the fold up bass boat type seats

Do you have any shots of your guwale panels? I redid the bow seats, and they look pretty good. I was going to order so lounge seat and call it a day. But the seat in the transom area, I guess I'll have to fab them..

I too am a first time boater & have the exact same boat. Mine is in a little worse shape as far as the floor go's, but that's the winter project I have planned. I'm going to re-do the entire interior. There is a "You tube" clip I came across of a guy that did a really nice custom interior on his 1986 Capri, I'm going to copy much of what he did. If I can find it again I'll pass it along so you can check it out. So far, just to get on the water I cut some plywood & did a temp. floor & covered it with gray indoor/outdoor carpet. It looks OK for now. I wish I could help you with the electrical questions, but I'm as new to this as you are. Good Luck, & if I find the clip I'll send it to you.

Here is a simple rear bench I made for my old Glasspar, you could apply the idea and make it as simple or nice as you wanted to.

I need to scan the old 35mm snaps of the boat when I first got it on the water, sitting on a cooler was the interior of that time!

The "You Tube" clip is named "1986 Bayliner Capri 1600-interior redo". I searched "Bayliner" & it was the 12th clip down. It's worth your while to check it out, it a nice job.

Stan, Shipwreck.com is a bead/arts and crafts supplier (my Daughter want to make stuff now):)

www.greatlakesskipper.com has a lot of surplus tachs and last time I was there I noticed they had a lot of them specifically for Force's.

I believe many Bayliners have their seat boxes built into the deck. Not sure if your older one has those or not. These are specifically made for that http://www.boatingseats.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=58 (pricey I know)

Ezmobee, Thats a great site, I ordered a tach and speedo last night; thanks! You are correct the seat boxes are glassed to the deck, I think I going to use my old race car seats, hell I only spent $300 on the boat & trailer. :D
