I have an old, ugly looking 18 hp. he is pretty old, I believe from 1982. He however works like a champ and is fitted with an electric starter.

The other engine is an 25 hp mercury, about ten years younger. I want to pull the electric starter from the 18 hp and mount it on the 25 hp.

The difference between the engines is the flywheel. The 18hp has a ring gear on the flywheel, the 25 hp doesn't.

Before I pull the flywheels off, I'd like to know if I can swap the flywheels in order to make the 25 hp an electric starter. The second question is if the 25 hp already has a charger coil? or do i have to place that one too?

Much appreciation on forehand.

Instead of taking a perfectly good running engine apart for parts  , why not look on the net (EBay if you will) for the proper flywheel and starter setup for your newer engine and then have two totally perfectly working engines? It is only some money and then you have two quality running engines as well... :thumb:

Thanks for the anwers. I am not taking the engines apart, I was planning on selling the 18 hp as a manual starter. I live in the Netherlands and here parts do not come cheap or are hard to find second hand. Since I only need one engine, I decided to sell the 18 hp. Fitting both engines with an electric starter would only cost me more money than I will gain when I am selling it..
