Re: flywheel sher pin

Maybe you are not getting the torque setting right; what are you using?

Re: flywheel sher pin

You have to torque the flywheel nut to spec. Use 100-105 Foot Pounds.

Each time it slips the damage gets worse, so try to make sure the surfaces are absolutely dry and clean.

Nope, gotta torque it down to proper specs,or she'll shear the key.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a torque wrench if you don't have one.

Somebody will likely chime in with the proper setting, probably around 65 or 70 pounds.

Good luck!

As already said, it must be clean and dry and the nut torqued to 100-105 FT/LBS. Ignore that advice and it will shear the key. And each time it runs loose or shears, it damages the shaft and flywheel. Keep it up and you will have junk. You may have already reached that point.

Also, don't try to use anything other than the proper, OEM woodruff key - it must fit perfectly and be of the correct alloy. Consult an OEM manual to determine if the key should be oriented in a verticle position, or in line with the taper.
