When I pulled off the flywheel to inspect the points and condensor the key fell out of the spindle slot. When I replace the flywheel do I just push this key back in and push the flywheel over the spindle? I think that is what I should do but this is first time I have worked on an outboard. Therefore before I mess something up I am asking someone with experience. Thanks

You have the right idea. Need to make sure that the flywheel is fully seated on the crank. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a spare key for the tool box if it happens again.
