I am about to remove the flywheel from my 85 150hp Mariner V6. I have a puller with 2 arms that will pull from the outside of the flywheel (the ringgear). Am I going to stuff anything using this type of puller or do you specifically need a puller that bolts near the centre of the flywheel. The manual also tells me that a plastic cap should be used to prevent any damage to the crankshaft. Can anyone please give any advise. Thank you.

Re: Flywheel removal

Do not grab the ring gear and try. If that is like a mercury there are threads on the flywheel in the area where it slips over the crankshaft.<br /><br /> http://www.screamandfly.com/screamandflymagazine/JSRE flywheel puller.html <br /><br />The tool not only removes the flywheel but also serves as a skyhook point.<br /><br /> http://www.jaysmithracing.com/machine_shop_services.htm <br /><br />
