Re: Flywheel removal and install need help

If you have a three piece flywheel bolted together you can simply unbolt the outer section from the hub. Otherwise you need the correct screw-in puller with the inner jacking bolt. Cast flywheels are too brittle to risk using any type of 'jaw' puller and are not drilled for any 2 or 3 wing bolted pullers.

NEVER HIT OR PRY on a cast flywheel, unseen stress cracks can cause a flywheel to grenade at high RPM.

The correct tool is available at many other sources on the web. It is well worth it.

Here is one

Mercury Mariner Yamaha Force Outboard 1 1 2" 16 Flywheel Puller 91 849154T1 | eBay

Edit: If you have the bolted hub be SURE to mark the inner and outer so you can index it they same on reassembly otherwise all timing marks will be incorrect.

The flywheel puller that Charlie gave is a very worth while item for the price. A call to the manufacture will also get you the lifting ring that fits the puller. With it you can safely lift the motor off the boat easy and save trouble latter. JMO
