Hello everyone,
I have a '61 800 fgs merc with a green flywheel. I'm in the midst of a rebuild and wanted to know why this flywheel is green when all I've seen in this year/model is red. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Flywheel Paint

Sometime in the past, this guy was working on your motor and his wife came out. She saw the red flywheel and told him that if it were green it would match the boat and thought it would be prettier. Well, since he already had the paint from putting a fresh coat on the metal ribbed glider in the back yard he figured "what the heck, anything to make the little lady happy" and that is why yours is green. LOL :noidea: I really wish I had the real answer to your question, I did a little digging online to no avail (as I'm sure you did too) surely there is an old "Mercury motor head" on here that can give you the correct answer. I just hate to see where so many folks have looked at your post but non have commented. I feel someone should at least say something. Anyway, good luck with getting the correct info. I'll poke around a little more and let you know if I come up with something.
